REPRESENTATIVE EXPERIENCE
Mass Tort
Defended a manufacturer and packager of birth control pills against tort, breach of warranty,
consumer fraud, and false advertising claims in 13 lawsuits and a mass action with 113
plaintiffs over the course of six years after a nationwide recall of more than 3 million pill
packets. Defeated attempts to certify class actions and multi-district litigation and prevailed
on summary judgment in courts throughout the country.
Served as lead trial counsel in the United States and 3 foreign countries in class action
litigation relating to 5 million laptop computers, including defense of 28 U.S. class actions
(consolidated into an MDL).
Defended claims involving exposure to asbestos, benzene, dioxins and furans, polycyclic aromatic
hydrocarbons, and talc, among other substances. Conducted expert depositions across various
scientific disciplines, including disease causation, epidemiology, exposure assessment,
industrial hygiene, pathological diagnosis, pulmonary function, and toxicology.
Defended a multinational corporation in its first asbestos exposure claim in the United States.
Achieved summary judgment, after many months of contentious litigation, based on Texas' innocent
seller statute.
Oversaw United States and United Kingdom-based personal injury litigation for a Chinese
state-owned enterprise and implemented training and risk management programs for engineers and
salespeople.
Served as national counsel for an equipment manufacturers with thousands of asbestos-related
claims throughout the United States. Handled the day-to-day litigation of these claims and
coordinated expert and trial defense strategies.
Assisted a manufacturer of centrifuges and separator equipment with post-trial motions. Advised
on various appellate issues in asbestos-related litigation. Provided ongoing counseling and
comprehensive risk assessment associated with various product lines.
Served as national coordinating counsel for industrial premises owners facing asbestos claims in
multiple jurisdictions.
